New Season, New Schedule: A Sneak Peak into Spring 2026 CCI Classes

It’s hard to believe spring is almost here! The semester has flown by, and with October already upon us, registration season is quickly approaching. We know how stressful planning classes can get, so the CCI Minor team is here to make things a little easier for you. From connecting you with your peer advisor to giving you an early look at next semester’s lineup, we’ve got you covered. Below, you’ll find a list of upcoming CCI courses and a few key details to help you plan ahead. Take a minute to look through everything, some classes have different topics depending on the section, so this sneak peek will help you make the best choices for YOU!
Here are a few quick facts to know before registering for classes:
Peer Advisor Hours with Marisa Lamas: Drop by the CCI house Wednesdays, 9–11 a.m. with NO appointment needed! OR schedule a meeting for Tuesday, Thursday, or Friday HERE Marisa is able to help you create a schedule, answer questions, and should always be your first point of contact before reaching out to a professor!
October 13: Classes will be available to view in the Student Center.
Course Order: You do not need to take CCI courses in a specific order!
Substitutions: You can use up to two substitutions in the CCI minor.
October 20: Deadline to submit Change of Major, Minor, or Themed Inquiry requests to be processed for registration.

CCI 100 Introduction to Creative and Cultural Industries
Section 01 T/TH 8:30-9:45am
Section 02 T/TH 10-11:15am
This class will provide students with an introduction to the key concepts in the field of the Creative and Culture industries. Central to the course will be the exploration of the how culture is used both at an institutional level and in everyday life as well as the idea of culture and cultural production and how these concepts have been understood and have changed throughout history. The main goal being to help the students to explore the definitions and wider implications of the Creative and Cultural Industries in order to consolidate students’ knowledge of the multiple meanings associated with this term.
CCI 203 Contemporary Issues in CCI - Content Creation
Section 01 T 7-9:50pm
This spring 2024 CCI 203 will be focused on the topic of Content Creation. The course will look at Content Creation by combining analysis and practice of cross-platform messaging including digital storytelling, blogging, digital storytelling and visual culture forms, while exploring issues of gender, equity, inclusion, power, pleasure and the creative process.
CCI 203 Contemporary Issues in CCI - Film Festival
Section 02 M/W 4-5:15pm
This spring 2024 CCI 203 will be focused on the topic of Festival production. The course will look at the steps of the full production process for developing and presenting a public festival. Students will work with on campus offices and entities as well liaising with artists; festival marketing and public relations; technical set up and support.

CCI 301 Studies in Cultural Institutions
Section 01 M/W 5:30-6:45pm
This section of CCI 301 will look at cultural institutions through the lens of studio systems and films, leaning heavily into screenwriting for socially conscious films, and filmmaking and the exploration of how to become an effective storyteller. Students will gain an understanding of specific institutions which in turn will translate to a broader understanding of how cultural and creative industries operate.
CCI 302 Cultural Memory
Section 01 M/W 1-2:15pm
This course questions the consequences of unlimited storage in terms of cultural memories, their production in a world where it is impossible to forget. This course looks at the relationships between images, the globalization of media, cultural experience and the purpose of archives in contemporary life.
CCI 303 Cultural Organization Management
Section 01 T/TH 2:30-3:45pm
Section 02 T/TH M/W 5:30-6:45pm
This course will examine the key issues, concepts and practices associated with the management and operation of cultural organizations. Taught by faculty and industry-leading guest speakers, covering domestic and international perspectives, the course will equip students with the theoretical and practical skills needed for working in the Creative and Cultural Industries.

CCI 304 CCI in Practice - Podcasting
Section 01 W 7-9:50pm
This section of CCI 304 allows students to contribute a segment for a reboot of the Catalyst Podcast, a podcast that focused on the art and the artists of Chapman University. Students who come out of this 300 level class will know how to produce, edit, host, market and launch their own podcast, and the Catalyst podcast would give them an opportunity to run a network, and give Chapman students an opportunity to subscribe, listen, and then learn about all of the talented students on the campus.
CCI 304 CCI in Practice - Undergraduate Journal Publishing
Section 02 TH 7-9:50pm
This section of 304- will focus on the publishing process of an undergraduate journal. Students experience the real-world publication process of an undergraduate film journal, Film Matters. Students participate in the practice of editorship, involving (as needed) creation of journal policy and protocol, devise calls for issues and/or papers; solicit and review content from peers throughout the world. This class emphasizes diverse topics mindful of biases and neglected areas within the discipline.
CCI 305 Cultural Studies
Section 01 T/TH 11:30am-12:45pm
Section 02 T/TH 1-2:15pm
This course explores how to become a divergent thinker and the increasing importance of creative thinking in all professions. We will explore ideas and examples drawn from a wide range of CCIs, including film, media, fashion, art, theme parks, festivals, creative spaces. Themes will include dreams, witchcraft, conspiracy theories, desire, taste, power, elastic thinking, the idea of 'you'. The class will include exercises to help you become a new version of you so that by the end you should feel like you've just stepped off a very interesting theme park ride (still alive, a bit shaky but ready to do it again).
