Internships are a valuable way to gain hands-on experience in industries that you may be interested in pursuing after graduation or are simply curious to learn more about. Not only do internships play an important role in shaping your professional development skills, but they can also help you determine your interests, create new interests, connect you with industry professionals, and provide you with credible knowledge outside of the classroom.
That being said, the end of the semester also means the start of internship application season. With students all over the country eager to gain hands-on experience before taking on the real world, it’s important that you start researching companies that you may be interested in working for, writing your internship applications, and submitting them early to make sure you have a chance at securing a spot for the upcoming spring and summer internship season.
In order to make the process a little bit easier, The CCI Department has provided an extensive list of upcoming Spring and Summer internships posted on the opportunities board page of the CCI Student Collective website which you can easily access here, as well as by using in the link in our instagram bio. The Opportunities page includes a range of internship listings from domestic and international companies, as well as details about fellowships, grants, and workshops that are updated and added throughout the semester. We highly encourage all CCI students to check it out and learn more about all of the new internship opportunities at companies ranging from Walt Disney Animation Studios, Levi Strauss, Pacsun, Waldorf Publishing, Universal Music Group, The Fox Magazine, and so much more.
As an example, for those interested in pursuing a career in the fashion industry or curious to learn more about the opportunities within it, Professor Rachel Kinnard recommends applying for the Jack Handford Summer Internship/grant opportunity. According to the job listing posted on their website, the winning student will receive a $3,000 grant for a student internship that is intended to average the length of six weeks and total 120 hours for the duration. The winner will select one of two institutions: de Young Museum in San Francisco and Museum of History and Industry in Seattle, to work on a specialized project for the duration of the internship.
The de Young Museum project will include working on a major special exhibition of the department’s collection of twentieth- and twenty-first-century haute couture and high fashion. The exhibition will be accompanied by the first-ever catalog of these holdings. Whereas, the project of the Museum of History and Industry in Seattle will be focusing on an inventory and cataloging in conjunction with revising the core exhibit “True Northwest: The Seattle Journey.
